Lions Score 31 for the Third Straight Week, a Franchise First
Detroit has opened a season with three 30-point games for the first time. Jahmyr Gibbs passed Billy Sims for second on the team's career rushing touchdown list, and Jared Goff has thrown a touchdown in 26 straight games.
The Detroit Lions have scored exactly 31 points in all three of their games, and Sunday's 31-24 win over the Jets made this the first season in franchise history to open with three straight 30-point games.
What did Gibbs and Goff do?
Gibbs scored three touchdowns and moved past Billy Sims (42) into second place on the Lions' career rushing touchdown list, behind Barry Sanders' 99. Goff went 25 of 32 for 269 yards and two touchdowns, including 15 of 16 against the blitz, and extended the league's longest active streak of games with a touchdown pass to 26.
Is the defense any better?
It has allowed 95 points in three games. Detroit changed its secondary against New York, starting Roger McCreary and D.J. Reed at cornerback with Rock Ya-Sin in a reserve role. "That was a good win," Dan Campbell said.
