Detroit Lions running back Isiah Pacheco is expected to miss about 12 weeks after surgery to remove a loose body that was pressing on a nerve in his back, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported. The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Watkins IV.

A 12-week recovery would put a return in early December. "It's going to be a while," coach Dan Campbell said, calling it "a significant amount of time." Pacheco, signed this offseason after four years and two Super Bowl wins in Kansas City, had been placed on injured reserve before Week 1.

With David Montgomery traded to Houston, Jahmyr Gibbs is the primary back and handled 29 carries in the 31-30 overtime win over New Orleans. Pacheco was signed to complement him, so the Lions' depth behind Gibbs is the question for the next three months.
