New Orleans Saints long snapper Zach Wood has a Grade 2 calf strain that is expected to sideline him four to six weeks, a source told ESPN. Wood was not on the injury report until he reported tightness Wednesday, and tests confirmed the strain.
Why does it matter?
Wood, 33, is in his 10th season with the Saints and is the second-longest-tenured player on the roster behind Cameron Jordan. He had not missed a game since arriving in 2017. New Orleans will likely hold tryouts this week; defensive tackle John Ridgeway III handled emergency snapping in camp when Wood left for Drew Brees' Hall of Fame ceremony.
Is Alvin Kamara back?
Kamara was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, and coach Kellen Moore said he "feels good" about Kamara's chances of playing Sunday after missing the opener at Detroit.
