NFL owners approved the sale of the Seattle Seahawks to a group led by Vinod Khosla for $9.612 billion, a new record for a North American sports franchise, ending the Estate of Paul G. Allen's ownership of the reigning Super Bowl LX champions.
Who is buying the team?
Vinod Khosla, the Sun Microsystems co-founder and venture capitalist who is also a limited partner in the San Francisco 49ers, leads the group alongside his wife Neeru and son Neal. "We are honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks... look forward to building on the winning legacy Paul Allen created," Khosla said.
How does this compare to past NFL sales?
The $9.612 billion price surpasses the Washington Commanders' $6.05 billion sale in 2023, the previous record. Jody Allen had been running the team on behalf of Paul Allen's estate since his 2018 death; the sale agreement was first announced July 11, 2026.
Does this change anything on the field?
Coach Mike Macdonald said earlier this offseason, "Nothing's changed on our front, nor will it for the foreseeable future," calling the sale a "new chapter" and "cause for excitement" as Seattle defends its Super Bowl title.
