Steelers Rule Out Michael Pittman Jr. and Joey Porter Jr. at New England
Pittman has a foot injury that kept him out of practice Thursday and Friday, and Porter's back flared up again as he ramped up. Second-round rookie Germie Bernard is in line for a larger role.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. for Sunday's game at New England. Pittman has a foot injury, and Porter's back injury resurfaced during Thursday's practice.
What happened with Pittman?
He showed up on Wednesday's report as limited and then missed the next two practices. Pittman, acquired from Indianapolis in the offseason, also missed a stretch of training camp with an undisclosed injury. He caught all three of his targets for 58 yards in the opening win over Atlanta.
Who steps in?
Germie Bernard, a second-round pick from Alabama who played three snaps in Week 1, should see most of the added work opposite DK Metcalf. "He's got a great attitude. He really wants to learn," Aaron Rodgers said. "When he does make a mistake, he takes it to heart and studies it." Porter has yet to play this season, and he remains in the final year of his rookie contract with no extension.
