A former Army standout who nearly broke a decades-long draft drought before grinding through four practice squads to reach Washington.
Andre Carter II starred as a pass rusher at Army, once regarded as a potential first-round talent and a shot at becoming the academy's first Round 1 pick since 1947. He went undrafted anyway in 2023 and has spent the years since bouncing between rosters, most recently landing with Washington on a futures contract.
Path to the league
Carter played at Army from 2019 to 2022, redshirting his first year before breaking out as a junior with 15.5 sacks, second-most in the nation, and 44 tackles. That performance earned him third-team All-American honors in 2021. Despite the draft buzz, he went unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft and signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent.
Career highlights
Carter made Minnesota's initial 53-man roster as a rookie in 2023 before being waived to the practice squad in 2024. He was subsequently signed off Minnesota's practice squad by the Las Vegas Raiders in December 2024.
2025 season recap
Carter did not appear in a regular-season game in 2025. He was waived by the Raiders in August, joined the Detroit Lions' practice squad, and was then claimed by the Miami Dolphins off Detroit's practice squad in November, but remained a healthy inactive there for the rest of the year. He signed a futures contract with Washington in January 2026.
