A three-interception freshman phenom at Notre Dame whose draft stock survived season-ending hip surgery to land him in Tampa Bay's secondary.

Benjamin Morrison arrived at Notre Dame as a five-star recruit and immediately looked the part, tying an NCAA record with three interceptions in a single game before he'd finished his freshman year. A hip injury cut his junior season short and pushed him to Day 2 of the draft, but the Buccaneers landed a corner many teams had first-round grades on. He's now developing into a full-time piece of Tampa Bay's defensive backfield.

Path to the league

Morrison starred at Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix before enrolling at Notre Dame, where he became one of the most decorated freshman defensive backs in the country. Medical concerns following season-ending hip surgery in 2024 dropped a player many considered a likely first-rounder to the second round, where the Buccaneers took him 53rd overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

As a true freshman in 2022, Morrison intercepted six passes, including a pick-six, and tied an NCAA single-game record with three interceptions against Boston College, earning Freshman All-American honors. He added three more interceptions as a preseason All-American in 2023, famously limiting Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. to just three catches for 32 yards. He finished his Notre Dame career with 9 interceptions and 18 pass deflections across 31 games.

2025 season recap

Morrison worked his way into Tampa Bay's cornerback rotation as a rookie, recording 26 tackles, 4 pass deflections, and a fumble recovery. His father, Darryl Morrison, was a former NFL safety who played under current Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles, adding a full-circle element to his rookie year in Tampa.
