A sixth-round steal out of Boston College who fought back from injury to become a starting NFL guard.
Christian Mahogany is an interior offensive lineman who overcame a torn ACL in college to become one of Detroit's starting guards. Known for his physicality and elite pass protection, he has had to battle through injuries at the pro level as well, but keeps working his way back into the lineup.
Path to the league
Mahogany started 11 games as a freshman left guard at Boston College in 2020 before missing the 2022 season with a torn ACL suffered during offseason basketball. He returned in 2023 to start all 12 games at right guard and earn first-team All-ACC honors, becoming the ninth Boston College player ever drafted by Detroit when the Lions took him in the sixth round, 210th overall, in 2024.
Career highlights
At Boston College, Mahogany was a two-time All-ACC selection and built a reputation as one of the nation's most reliable pass protectors, not allowing a sack or quarterback hit on 422 pass-blocking snaps his senior year. He began his rookie 2024 season on the non-football injury list before being activated in late October.
2025 season recap
Mahogany opened 2025 as one of Detroit's starting guards but suffered a broken bone in Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings and landed on injured reserve on November 1. He returned to action on December 20 ahead of Week 16 against Pittsburgh, finishing his career to date with 18 games played and 12 starts.
