Damon Bankston spent four seasons at FCS Weber State before transferring to New Mexico for a productive final year that put him on NFL radars as both a runner and a returner. He went unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft after pre-draft visits with several teams and signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent.
Path to the league
A Katy, Texas native out of Paetow High School, Bankston went unranked as a recruit and signed with Weber State, where he spent 2021 through 2024 as a two-time all-conference selection in the Big Sky and a team captain in his final season there. He transferred to New Mexico for 2025, his last year of eligibility, and went undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft before signing with the Giants.
Career highlights
At Weber State, Bankston carried the ball 392 times for 2,324 yards, establishing himself as one of the Big Sky's most productive backs. He earned pre-draft visits with the Chargers, Packers and Texans, and his blend of rushing and receiving ability made him a name to watch among Day 3 running back prospects despite going unranked on most draft boards.
2025 season recap
In his only season at New Mexico, Bankston rushed for 635 yards on 5.6 yards per carry with five touchdowns, added 31 catches for 397 yards and three more scores through the air, and averaged better than 36 yards per kickoff return with two return touchdowns. He led the Lobos in rushing and was not invited to the NFL Combine, instead running a 4.43-second 40-yard dash at his pro day before signing with the Giants as an undrafted free agent.
