A former Jets second-round pick with elite combine speed who is fighting to resurrect his NFL career after a detour through the UFL.

Denzel Mims once looked like the New York Jets' receiver of the future, running a blazing 4.38 forty at the combine after a dominant final season at Baylor. Six years, several practice squads and a UFL stint later, he is chasing a roster spot again, this time with Dallas.

Path to the league

Mims was a three-year starter and go-to target at Baylor, leading the Bears in receiving in two of his final three seasons and scoring at least eight receiving touchdowns in each of those years. He capped his college career with 66 catches for 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns in his final season, good for first-team All-Big 12 honors, and the Jets took him 59th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Over three seasons with the Jets, Mims played in 30 games with 15 starts, catching 42 of 92 targets for 676 yards. His college production and rare speed made him a buzzed-about prospect, but he never turned that combine profile into consistent NFL targets, and New York moved on after 2022.

2025 season recap

Mims did not appear in an NFL game in 2025. After stops on Detroit's and Pittsburgh's rosters in prior years, he spent the 2025 season playing in the UFL, totaling 11 receptions for 110 yards across 11 games split between the Battlehawks and Renegades, before signing with Dallas in 2026 in an attempt to get back on an NFL roster.
