A former Mizzou touchdown machine who found his best role as Sam Darnold's backup on a Super Bowl champion.
Drew Lock has bounced from first-round buzz to journeyman backup over seven NFL seasons, but 2025 gave him the best ending of his career. Signed to back up Sam Darnold in Seattle, Lock finally got his ring, and he brings that championship pedigree into the Seahawks quarterback room.
Path to the league
Lock starred at Missouri from 2015 to 2018, throwing for 12,193 yards and 99 touchdowns for the Tigers. His junior season was the peak: 44 touchdown passes, an SEC and Missouri single-season record, and first-team All-SEC honors. The Denver Broncos drafted him 42nd overall in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
Lock started 4-1 as a rookie in Denver before injuries and inconsistency slowed his rise. He was traded to Seattle in 2022, started games in both 2022 and 2023, then spent 2024 as a backup in New York before returning to the Seahawks. For his career he has completed better than 59 percent of his passes for over 6,300 yards and 34 touchdowns.
2025 season recap
Lock signed a two-year deal to back up Sam Darnold in Seattle for 2025 and stayed in that role all season. He got his first career championship when the Seahawks beat New England 29-13 in Super Bowl LX, capping a long road from Denver bust narratives to champion.
