Sheriff was born in Jackson, Mississippi and grew up in the small town of Terry, where he starred at Terry High School. He spent two seasons at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College before transferring to South Alabama in 2020, where he played through the 2023 season despite missing the entire 2021 campaign with injury.

Sheriff capped his South Alabama career by earning Defensive MVP honors in the 2023 68 Ventures Bowl, South Alabama's first bowl win in program history. Across his final two seasons with the Jaguars, he recorded 79 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and nine sacks. He signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2024.
