An undrafted safety who picked off Heisman winner Caleb Williams before carving out a roster spot with the Jets.
Jarius Monroe took the long road to the NFL, starting at Nicholls before a transfer to Tulane turned him into a two-time all-conference safety. Undrafted in 2024, he has since fought through injury and roster churn to stick with the New York Jets.
Path to the league
Monroe started his college career at Nicholls (2019-2021), where he was a three-year starter with 102 tackles, 28 pass deflections and an interception. He transferred to Tulane for the 2022 and 2023 seasons before going undrafted in 2024 and signing with the Jets as a free agent.
Career highlights
At Tulane, Monroe earned two first-team All-AAC selections and intercepted six passes with 18 pass breakups over two seasons, including a notable pick of Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams in the 2023 Cotton Bowl Classic. He capped his college career by being named Defensive MVP of the East-West Shrine Bowl.
2025 season recap
Monroe was promoted to the Jets' active roster in late December 2024 and carried that momentum into 2025, though a preseason injury settlement in August briefly cost him a roster spot. He was re-signed to the practice squad in November and elevated back to the active roster on December 16, 2025, finishing the season with 6 tackles through Week 10 usage.
