An undrafted receiver out of Southern Miss who cashed the largest signing bonus of any 2023 UDFA class member, Jason Brownlee has spent his career fighting for a foothold on NFL rosters.

Jason Brownlee went unselected in the 2023 draft despite a productive college career at Southern Miss, but the Jets still paid him $246,000 to sign, the biggest bonus of any undrafted free agent that year. He has since bounced through practice squads before landing with the Chiefs, where he continues to compete for a roster spot.

Path to the league

Brownlee played college football at East Mississippi Community College before finishing his career at Southern Miss. He went undrafted in 2023 but signed with the New York Jets for $246,000, the largest bonus given to any undrafted free agent in that year's class.

Career highlights

After his time with the Jets, Brownlee signed with the Chiefs' practice squad in January 2025. He turned heads during training camp and the preseason, including a highlight touchdown catch on a back-shoulder fade from Patrick Mahomes against the Cardinals, which helped him make Kansas City's initial 53-man roster.

2025 season recap

Brownlee made the Chiefs' 53-man roster to start 2025 while Rashee Rice served a suspension, appearing in six regular-season games without recording a catch on his only target. He was released when Rice returned in October, spent time back on the practice squad, and was elevated for Kansas City's final two games of the season before signing a reserve/future contract to stay with the team.
