A former walk-on who won the Burlsworth Trophy at Pittsburgh, Jimmy Morrissey has carved out a journeyman NFL career at center.
Jimmy Morrissey is a center whose college story began as a walk-on and ended with one of college football's top honors for players who started their careers unrecruited. Since being drafted in 2021, he has bounced between several NFL rosters, most recently landing with the Indianapolis Colts.
Path to the league
Morrissey walked on at Pittsburgh, redshirted, then won the starting center job as a redshirt freshman. He earned first-team All-ACC as a redshirt junior and second-team All-ACC as a senior, capping his college career by winning the 2020 Burlsworth Trophy, given annually to the top Division I player who began as a walk-on. The Las Vegas Raiders drafted him in the seventh round, 230th overall, in 2021.
Career highlights
After starting his pro career with the Raiders, Morrissey joined the Houston Texans during the 2021 season and made his NFL debut as the starting center. He has since spent time with the Texans, New York Giants and now the Colts, totaling 15 career games played with four starts.
2025 season recap
Morrissey spent the 2025 season working through practice-squad and roster moves, including stints with the Giants organization, before signing a reserve/future contract with the Indianapolis Colts in January 2026. He continues to compete for depth snaps on the interior offensive line.
