Joey Aguilar's college career took him from junior college football in the Bay Area to Appalachian State and finally Tennessee, where he threw for an SEC-high yardage total in 2025. After going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, he signed with the Jaguars, joining a quarterback room led by Trevor Lawrence.
Path to the league
Aguilar, from Oakley, California, started at City College of San Francisco before transferring to Diablo Valley College, then Appalachian State, where he set school passing records. He briefly committed to UCLA before Nico Iamaleava's transfer pushed him back into the portal, and he ultimately landed at Tennessee for his final season. Aguilar signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent after the 2026 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
At Appalachian State in 2023, Aguilar set school records with 3,757 passing yards and 33 touchdowns, earning Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year honors. He carried that production into a Power Four starting job at Tennessee for his final college season.
