A Los Angeles product who left UCLA for USC and became a fifth-round safety for Houston after four productive college seasons.
Kamari Ramsey grew up in the shadow of both Los Angeles programs before choosing UCLA, then followed his defensive coordinator across town to USC for his final two college seasons. Houston selected him in the fifth round of the 2026 draft, betting on his instincts and range at safety.
Path to the league
A four-star recruit out of Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles who originally committed to Stanford, Ramsey ultimately signed with UCLA. When UCLA defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn took the same job at USC, Ramsey transferred with him and finished his college career as a Trojan. The Texans took him in the fifth round, 141st overall, in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
Ramsey redshirted his first year at UCLA before breaking out as a starter in 2023, when he posted 40 tackles, an interception and five pass deflections. Across his career at UCLA and USC he totaled 133 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles and two interceptions, and he ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
2025 season recap
Ramsey capped his college career at USC in 2025 after a strong 2024 season in which he recorded 60 tackles, five passes defended, two sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception. His tape as a physical, versatile safety who could play in the box or deep was enough to convince Houston to spend a day-three pick on him.
