A former LSU starter who went undrafted, got cut by the Bears, and led the UFL in interceptions before earning his way onto Miami's roster.
Major Burns took the long way to an NFL depth chart. After starting at safety for LSU and going undrafted in 2025, he was waived by the Chicago Bears, rebuilt his case with a league-leading interception season in the UFL, and signed on with the Dolphins in 2026.
Path to the league
Burns began his college career at Georgia in 2020 before transferring to LSU, where he became a regular contributor in the secondary from 2021 through 2024. He went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft despite a productive final season in Baton Rouge.
Career highlights
Burns' LSU career included a 2021 season with 25 tackles and an interception before a foot injury ended it early, a 2022 campaign with 38 tackles and 3.5 for loss, and a memorable pick-six against Missouri in 2023. He signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2025 before being waived with an injury designation.
2025 season recap
After his release from Chicago, Burns landed with the Houston Gamblers of the UFL, where he led the league in interceptions and earned All-UFL honors. That performance was enough to convince the Dolphins to bring him in, and he now wears No. 43 on Miami's roster.
