Quinn Ewers arrived at Miami as a seventh-round flier out of Texas after a draft slide caused by injury concerns. He spent his rookie year behind Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson before getting a real chance to play down the stretch of the 2025 season.

Path to the league

Ewers was the nation's No. 2 overall recruit out of Southlake Carroll High School and began his college career at Ohio State before transferring to Texas, where he was a Heisman Trophy candidate in 2024. A torn oblique and high-ankle sprain during his final college season hurt his draft stock, and the Dolphins took him with the 231st overall pick in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

In his final Texas season, Ewers threw for 3,472 yards, 31 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He entered the NFL as the 13th quarterback taken in his draft class despite having been viewed as a potential first-round talent earlier in his college career.

2025 season recap

Ewers opened the year as Miami's third quarterback behind Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson. After Tagovailoa was benched, Ewers started in Week 16 and finished the season with 622 passing yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions, going 1-2 as a starter. His best outing came in a win over Tampa Bay, completing 14 of 22 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns without an interception.
