Ewers was Miami's seventh-round pick, No. 231 overall, in the 2025 draft out of Texas, after starting his college career at Ohio State and leading the Longhorns to two College Football Playoff appearances. He made Miami's initial 53-man roster as an emergency third quarterback and, filling in as a rookie in 2025, went 1-2 as a starter across 4 games, completing 66.3% of his passes for 622 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. He regressed in the 2026 preseason under Miami's new coaching staff, going 1 of 8 for 27 yards with an interception, and missed the final two preseason games with a groin injury.
