Riley Patterson made his name as a reliable undrafted rookie in Detroit and has since bounced between franchises while maintaining strong accuracy numbers. He delivered a strong 2025 season for the Miami Dolphins, filling in for an injured Jason Sanders.

Path to the league

Patterson played college football at Memphis and went undrafted in 2021. He made the Detroit Lions as a rookie free agent, hitting 13 of 14 field goal attempts in his debut season.

Career highlights

Patterson returned to Detroit in a trade in 2023 and hit 15 of 17 field goals that season. He has also kicked for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns and New York Jets, and through 2025 he has made 90 of 103 career field goal attempts (87.4 percent) and 143 of 148 extra points (96.6 percent).

2025 season recap

Patterson signed with the Miami Dolphins to fill in for an injured Jason Sanders and delivered his most efficient season yet, making 26 of 28 field goal attempts (93.1 percent) and 33 of 34 extra points across 16 games, finishing with 115 total points. Miami re-signed him in March 2026.
