Savion Williams brought a rare skill set to Green Bay as a third-round pick, a 6-foot-4 receiver who moonlighted as a wildcat runner and return man in college. His rookie season showed flashes of that versatility before a foot injury cut it short.
Path to the league
Williams played five seasons at TCU from 2020 to 2024, developing from a converted high school quarterback into a full-time starter by his junior year. The Packers selected him in the third round, 87th overall, of the 2025 NFL Draft, hoping he could eventually fill the void left by Christian Watson.
Career highlights
As a senior in 2023, Williams led TCU with 41 receptions for 573 yards and four touchdowns over 11 starts, and he was frequently used as a runner out of the wildcat formation throughout his college career. He tested well at the combine, running a 4.48-second 40-yard dash at 222 pounds.
2025 season recap
Williams appeared in 12 games as a rookie, catching 10 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown while adding 37 rushing yards on 11 carries and 717 yards as a kickoff returner. A foot injury forced him out of five of the Packers' final six regular-season games and their playoff loss to Chicago, and he was placed on injured reserve on January 3, 2026.
