A consensus All-American and Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year at Ohio State, Shaun Wade has spent his NFL career fighting to recapture the form that made him a college star.
Shaun Wade arrived in the NFL with a decorated Ohio State resume, but injuries and roster turnover have made his professional career a winding one. After stops with four different NFL teams and a detour through the UFL, he has continued chasing a foothold as a coverage defender.
Path to the league
Wade redshirted his first year at Ohio State before becoming a key piece of the Buckeyes' secondary from 2018 to 2020, finishing with 91 tackles and six interceptions over 35 games. The Baltimore Ravens selected him in the fifth round, 160th overall, of the 2021 NFL Draft before immediately trading him to the New England Patriots.
Career highlights
Wade's collegiate peak came in 2020, when he was named a consensus All-American, first-team All-Big Ten selection, and the inaugural winner of Ohio State's Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year award as a team captain. He also earned USA Today High School Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2016 out of Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville.
2025 season recap
Wade signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears in April 2025 but was placed on injured reserve in mid-August before the regular season began, limiting him to no game action that year. He has since bounced back through the UFL before returning to an NFL roster.
