A well-traveled Penn State corner who has bounced through four organizations while fighting to stick on an NFL roster.

Tariq Castro-Fields has spent his NFL career mostly on practice squads since San Francisco drafted him in 2022, with stops in Washington and Carolina before Philadelphia signed him in October 2024. He won a Super Bowl LIX ring with the Eagles and remains on Philadelphia's roster fighting for a bigger role at cornerback.

Path to the league

Castro-Fields played five seasons at Penn State from 2017 to 2021, earning third-team All-Big Ten honors as a junior in 2019 after recording 52 tackles, two interceptions and eight passes broken up. He finished his college career with 138 tackles, three interceptions and 25 pass breakups over 52 games. San Francisco drafted him in the sixth round, 221st overall, in 2022.

Career highlights

Castro-Fields was waived by the 49ers before his rookie season and claimed by Washington, where he was placed on injured reserve in October 2022 before working his way back to the active roster by late 2023. He's played in a handful of games across four franchises, totaling four career tackles, and won Super Bowl LIX with the Eagles after joining Philadelphia's practice squad in October 2024.

2025 season recap

Castro-Fields was waived with an injury designation by the Eagles in late August 2025 during roster cuts, then re-signed to the practice squad that October. He signed a reserve/futures contract with Philadelphia in January 2026 but did not see significant regular-season action in 2025.
