Travis Clayton

Offensive Tackle

A former English rugby player who never played a snap of organized football before the Bills drafted him through the league's international pathway.

Travis Clayton's football story started in England, not on an American college campus. He came to Buffalo through the NFL's International Player Pathway Program, a raw but massive offensive tackle prospect still learning the position on the job as he works to carve out a role behind the Bills' established line.

Path to the league

Clayton is English and came from a rugby background rather than a traditional football path, joining the NFL's International Player Pathway Program to learn offensive line play. He became just the second IPP participant ever drafted when the Bills selected him in the seventh round, 221st overall, in the 2024 NFL Draft, despite never having played a game of American football before.

Career highlights

At 6-foot-7 and 301 pounds, Clayton's combination of size and athletic background from rugby made him an intriguing developmental project for Buffalo's offensive line room. His draft selection made him one of a small handful of rugby converts to reach an NFL roster in recent years.

2025 season recap

Clayton has yet to establish himself as a regular contributor. He was released as part of Buffalo's final roster cuts in August 2025 and re-signed to the practice squad the following day, spending the season developing behind the Bills' starting tackles rather than playing a role in the regular-season lineup.
