Eagles Bring Back Zach Ertz as Dallas Goedert Sprains MCL
Goedert is expected to miss a few weeks after leaving Sunday's win in Nashville. Ertz, 35 and 11 catches shy of the franchise record for a tight end, joins the practice squad after tearing his ACL last December.
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert has an MCL sprain and is expected to miss a few weeks, sources told ESPN. The Eagles are signing Zach Ertz to the practice squad to help fill the gap.
How thin is the position?
Goedert was hurt in the second quarter of Sunday's 24-20 win at Tennessee after one catch for 4 yards. Rookie second-round pick Eli Stowers (quad and hamstring) and Grant Calcaterra (back) are already on injured reserve, which leaves Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins, both primarily blockers.
What does Ertz bring?
Ertz, 35, spent his first eight-plus seasons in Philadelphia, made three Pro Bowls and caught the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl that ended the 2017 season. He was traded to Arizona in October 2021 and tore his ACL last December, but is described as healthy. He needs 11 receptions to pass the franchise record for a tight end. General manager Howie Roseman called him "one of the greatest tight ends to play the game."
