Giants Release Odell Beckham Jr. After Three Games and No Catches
Update: Beckham signed with Minnesota's practice squad on Oct. 7, with Vikings receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison both injured.
New York Giants coach John Harbaugh said Odell Beckham Jr. has done enough in training camp to make the team's roster, with New York's cutdown deadline set for Sunday at 6 p.m. ET.
What did Harbaugh say?
"Yes, he has done enough to make an NFL roster, for sure. He's played well. He's gotten better as camp's gone along. He deserves credit for that. He's done a really good job with it," Harbaugh said. He had also said earlier in the week that Beckham put together his best week of camp at the right moment ahead of final roster decisions.
How did he look in the preseason finale?
Beckham signed with the Giants in June on a make-the-team basis. In Friday's preseason finale against the Jets, he had three catches for 53 yards, though his performance was mixed: a slip led to an interception, and both of his catches were bobbled before he secured them.
How did the reunion end?
With a release three games in. Beckham played 11 snaps in Week 1, three in Week 2 and six in Week 3, with one target and no catches, behind Malik Nabers, Malachi Fields and Darnell Mooney. NFL Network first reported the move on Sept. 29, the day after New York traded for J.J. McCarthy. Beckham is a free agent.
Where did he land?
On the Vikings' practice squad. Kevin O'Connell, his offensive coordinator for part of 2021 with the Rams, said he could be elevated for Sunday's game at New Orleans if needed.
