Joe Burrow: 'This Is It' as Bengals Target Super Bowl Run
Tired of pushing expectations to next year, the quarterback says he's manifesting a championship after a 6-11 season and three straight years missing the playoffs.
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow declared this season the year the team finally breaks through, saying he's done deferring expectations. "I'm tired of saying, 'Next year, next year, next year.' This is it," he said.
Why is he saying this now?
The Bengals went 6-11 last season, their first losing record since Burrow's 2020 rookie year, following a Super Bowl loss in 2022 and an AFC Championship loss in 2023, then three straight years missing the playoffs. "You can keep pushing it down the road or you can talk about it now and say this is the year," Burrow said. "Your life is too short to keep pushing things down the road. I'm trying to put it out into the world. I'm trying to manifest it."
What's changed about the roster?
Cincinnati added linebacker Boye Mafe and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II this offseason to shore up its defense. Burrow said he believes the defense can now compete at a championship level, while the offense still needs to become more consistent as the team installs a more varied scheme ahead of its opener against Tampa Bay.
