Raiders' Ashton Jeanty Believed to Have Sprained Ankle, Not Serious Knee Injury
Initial fears of a significant knee injury after the rookie running back left Sunday's practice unable to put weight on his leg have eased following further evaluation.
Las Vegas Raiders rookie running back Ashton Jeanty is believed to have a sprained ankle rather than a serious knee injury, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported, a significant downgrade from initial fears after he left Sunday's practice unable to put weight on his leg.
How did it happen?
Jeanty was hurt while diving for a pass and colliding with a teammate. He was helped off the field unable to put weight on his right leg, with teammates reportedly taking a knee as he was carted off. The injury isn't considered long-term, though an exact return timeline hasn't been announced.
What's his background?
Jeanty was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 draft out of Boise State, the highest a running back had been drafted since Saquon Barkley went second overall in 2018. He was the 2024 Heisman runner-up after rushing for an FBS-leading 2,601 yards in his final college season and is Boise State's all-time leading rusher.
