2024 Offensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl LIX champion, the ninth player ever to run for 2,000 yards.
Saquon Barkley's 2024 season was historically great in a way Eagles fans had been waiting decades for from a running back. 2,005 regular-season rushing yards, 2,283 scrimmage yards, then a 499-yard postseason that ended with him hoisting a Lombardi on his 28th birthday. Philadelphia signed him to a two-year, $41.2 million extension three weeks later.
Path to the league
Penn State's most decorated all-purpose back: 5,538 career all-purpose yards, 43 rushing TDs, and a 1,157-yard receiving total that still ranks first among Nittany Lions running backs. Giants took him second overall in 2018. Spent six seasons in New York behind disappointing offensive lines, then signed with the Eagles in March 2024 on a three-year, $37.75 million deal.
Career highlights
Super Bowl LIX champion. 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year (35 first-place votes). 2024 first-team All-Pro. 2,005 rushing yards in 2024 (ninth player ever to clear 2,000) plus a postseason 499-yard run set a new NFL combined regular-season-plus-playoff rushing record (2,504). Four Pro Bowls. 2018 Offensive Rookie of the Year.
2025 season recap
Barkley's volume dipped after the 2024 workload. He still finished with 1,300 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, but the per-carry efficiency dropped from 5.8 to 4.3. The Eagles went 11-6 and lost the Divisional Round to Detroit. ESPN, CBS and others spent the season debating whether the 437-touch 2024 had taken a permanent edge off.
What to watch in 2026
Philadelphia drew the easiest first-place schedule in football, which should help reduce Barkley's snap load in early-season blowouts. The Eagles signed him through 2026, with team option years stacking after. He turns 29 in February. The fantasy and real-football question is the same: can the Eagles manage his workload to keep him fresh for January?
