Kyler Murray Suffers Concussion 11 Plays Into Vikings Debut; Wentz Leads 39-22 Comeback
Murray was ruled out in the first quarter after a late hit on a slide drew an unnecessary-roughness flag on Javon Bullard. Carson Wentz threw three touchdowns as Minnesota scored 29 straight points to beat Green Bay.
Kyler Murray's first start for the Minnesota Vikings lasted 11 plays. On a third-and-7 scramble in the first quarter of Sunday's 39-22 win over Green Bay, Murray slid and was hit by Lukas Van Ness and Javon Bullard, drawing an unnecessary-roughness penalty on Bullard. Murray went to the locker room and was ruled out with a concussion.
What did the Vikings say afterward?
Coach Kevin O'Connell offered little: "I have no update on how those evaluations have gone," he said, adding, "We'll take it day by day and see how he comes in tomorrow." He said Murray seemed to be doing well after the game but added, "I wouldn't medically quote me on that." Murray was 3 of 5 for 18 yards with an interception before leaving. He is in the league's concussion protocol, and no timeline has been set.
How did Carson Wentz play?
Wentz took over with Minnesota trailing and led a 29-0 finish, throwing two touchdown passes to Justin Jefferson, which matched Jefferson's touchdown total for all of 2025, and one to T.J. Hockenson, plus a two-point conversion to Jefferson. Minnesota converted 8 of 15 third downs with Wentz on the field, and he finished with a 123.5 passer rating and no turnovers. J.J. McCarthy, who lost the camp competition to Murray, did not play.
