Week 3 Injuries: Justin Jefferson, Baker Mayfield and De'Von Achane Among Players Hurt Sunday

Update: Mayfield is out at least three weeks with a dislocated thumb, Achane tore his ACL and is on injured reserve, Jefferson has an ankle sprain and could play, and the 49ers' three injured starters avoided long-term damage.

Sunday's Week 3 games produced a long injury list, headed by Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson, who left in the first quarter at Tampa Bay with an ankle injury, and Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, who missed his team's final drive with a thumb injury. Teams will issue updates Monday, and none of the players below has a confirmed timeline yet.

Who was hurt in Vikings-Buccaneers and Chiefs-Dolphins?

Jefferson's ankle injury came in the first quarter of Minnesota's 23-16 win, Kyler Murray's first full game back from a concussion. Mayfield hurt his thumb late and was not on the field for the last possession as Tampa Bay fell to 0-3. In Miami, running back De'Von Achane injured his knee on the opening drive of a 24-10 loss to Kansas City.

What about the 49ers, Patriots and Raiders?

San Francisco beat Arizona 36-30 but lost left tackle Trent Williams to a stinger, linebacker Dre Greenlaw to a quad injury and receiver Mike Evans to a rib injury. New England played without right guard Mike Onwenu, who has a broken ankle, and lost Greg Van Roten to a thigh injury in the second quarter of a 35-6 loss at Jacksonville. Raiders receiver Jack Bech fractured his forearm and is expected to miss games.

And in Rio?

Zay Flowers was a game-time decision with his hamstring, played, and caught the 27-yard pass that set up Tyler Loop's winning 56-yard field goal in Baltimore's 34-31 win over Dallas. Tight end Mark Andrews briefly left with a hand injury. The Cowboys were without defensive backs Jalen Thompson and Shavon Revel, who has a knee injury.

What did Monday's tests show?

Jefferson's MRI confirmed a left ankle sprain. "He avoided anything long term. It's just going to be about progressing throughout the week," Kevin O'Connell said. Minnesota managed seven first downs after he left. In San Francisco, Kyle Shanahan said Mike Evans' rib injury "shouldn't be long term," Trent Williams should practice by Thursday after a shoulder stinger, and Dre Greenlaw has a bruised quad that needs rest. Nick Bosa (calf) and James Thompson Jr. (ankle) will not play Sunday against Denver. Elsewhere, the Jets' Breece Hall is week-to-week with a quad injury and the Saints' Travis Etienne Jr. will miss time with a hamstring injury.

What are the final diagnoses?

Mayfield has a dislocated right thumb with no ligament damage and will miss at least three weeks; undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels starts for Tampa Bay. Achane tore his ACL and went on injured reserve Monday. Buccaneers receiver Jalen McMillan is out six to eight weeks with a PCL sprain.
