Ben Sinnott turned a walk-on start at Kansas State into a second-round draft selection, but his transition to the NFL has been slower than expected. Two seasons into his career with Washington, he remains a complementary piece behind the Commanders' more established tight end options rather than the every-down weapon his draft position suggested.

Path to the league

Sinnott began his college career as a walk-on at Kansas State after transferring from a commitment to South Dakota, redshirting his first year. He broke out as a redshirt sophomore with 31 catches for 447 yards and four touchdowns, and the Commanders drafted him in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Sinnott won the 2023 Lowman Trophy as the nation's top college fullback and earned All-Big 12 honors during his time at Kansas State, adding roughly 40 pounds to his frame during his college career without losing athleticism. As a rookie in 2024, he caught a fake-punt pass for 23 yards in the NFC Championship Game, one of the signature moments of Washington's playoff run.

2025 season recap

Sinnott's role expanded in the back half of 2025 as Washington dealt with injuries at tight end, and he finished the season with 11 receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown on 13 targets. He logged a season-high 34 offensive snaps in his first extended action after Zach Ertz went down with a knee injury, though he has yet to establish himself as a clear every-week contributor.
