Cameron McGrone arrived in the NFL as a highly regarded Michigan product but has spent most of his pro career fighting for roster spots across four organizations before signing with the Raiders. Injuries and practice-squad stints have slowed his path, but he continues to chase a consistent role at linebacker.

Path to the league

McGrone played at Michigan from 2018 to 2020, starting 15 of his 19 games and racking up 92 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. The New England Patriots drafted him in the fifth round (177th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

McGrone's rookie year in New England was cut short when he landed on the non-football injury list. He bounced to the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad in December 2022 and stuck around Indianapolis for parts of four seasons, signing contract extensions in both January 2024 and January 2025.

2025 season recap

The Colts waived McGrone on September 30, 2025, and he signed with the Cleveland Browns' practice squad in November. He made his Browns debut in Week 11 but suffered an Achilles injury that landed him on injured reserve later that month, and Cleveland released him in December. He signed with the Raiders in 2026 looking for a fresh opportunity.
