The former No. 2 overall pick has revived his career as an edge-rushing spark plug for the Saints.
Chase Young arrived in the league as a can't-miss pass rusher out of Ohio State, and after injuries slowed him in Washington, he has found a second wind in New Orleans. He remains one of the more explosive first-step rushers in the league when healthy, and he closed 2025 as one of the Saints' most productive defenders.
Path to the league
Young was a unanimous All-American at Ohio State in 2019, breaking the program's single-season sack record with 16.5 sacks and finishing fourth in Heisman Trophy voting. He won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award and Ted Hendricks Award that year and was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year before the Washington Redskins made him the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
Young won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2020 after leading all rookies in sacks and forced fumbles, then made the Pro Bowl in 2021. Knee and other injuries interrupted his prime years in Washington, and he was traded to San Francisco in 2023 before signing with New Orleans. For his career he has 32 sacks, 169 tackles and nine forced fumbles across parts of six seasons.
2025 season recap
Playing for the Saints, Young appeared in 12 games and put together his best statistical season since his rookie year, recording 10 sacks and 38 tackles with two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for December after a strong close to the season.
