A punishing, downhill runner who exploded for nearly 1,000 yards as a Texans rookie, Dameon Pierce is looking to rebuild his career after a difficult few seasons.

Dameon Pierce burst onto the scene as a bruising rookie back in Houston, but a scheme change and injuries slowed his momentum in the years that followed. After bouncing between the Texans and Chiefs in 2025, he heads into 2026 with a fresh start.

Path to the league

Pierce starred at Florida, finishing his college career with 329 carries for 1,806 yards, a 5.5 yards-per-carry average, and 23 rushing touchdowns, adding 45 receptions for 422 yards and five more touchdowns through the air. The Houston Texans drafted him in the fourth round, 107th overall, of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Pierce was an immediate impact player as a rookie, rushing for 939 yards in just 13 games and looking like the foundational piece of Houston's backfield. A coaching change and a shift to a zone-blocking scheme that didn't suit his north-south running style, combined with injuries, saw his production decline in the years after. For his career he has carried the ball 419 times for 1,684 rushing yards.

2025 season recap

Pierce split the 2025 season between the Texans and Chiefs, appearing in five total games. Houston waived him on November 20, 2025, and Kansas City signed him to its practice squad before elevating him to the active roster in December. He finished the year with 14 carries for 36 yards. In March 2026 he signed with the Eagles.
