A speedy Texas back with one of the fastest 40 times in his draft class who is still fighting to shake a rocky rookie year.

Jaydon Blue arrived in Dallas as a fifth-round pick out of Texas with home run speed, but a difficult rookie season limited him to a bit role behind the Cowboys' other backs. He finished strong late in the year, giving him something to build on for 2026.

Path to the league

Blue rushed for 730 yards and eight touchdowns on 134 carries as a senior at Texas while also catching 42 passes for 368 yards and six more scores, giving him the highest target share of any running back in his draft class. He ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash at the combine, the second-fastest mark among backs, and the Cowboys took him with the 149th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Blue's calling card coming out of college was explosiveness and receiving ability out of the backfield, though scouts flagged ball security as a concern after he fumbled seven times over his final two college seasons. He signed a four-year, $4.627 million rookie contract with Dallas.

2025 season recap

Blue was a healthy scratch for 12 games as a rookie, appearing in just five and totaling 38 carries for 129 yards and one touchdown. He got his biggest opportunity in the Week 18 finale against the Giants with both Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders sidelined, rushing 16 times for 64 yards and his lone score of the season.
