Will Shipley arrived in Philadelphia as a versatile fourth-round back out of Clemson and immediately delivered a signature moment, powering an 80-yard drive in the NFC Championship Game on the way to a Super Bowl LIX title. A fractured rib suffered in the 2025 opener knocked him off track, and the Eagles' trade for Tank Bigsby further squeezed his role.

Path to the league

Shipley was a three-year starter and dual-threat weapon at Clemson, rushing for 2,748 yards and 31 touchdowns while adding 602 receiving yards over his college career. His best season came in 2022, when he ran for 1,182 yards and 15 touchdowns and earned first-team All-American and first-team All-ACC honors. The Eagles drafted him in the fourth round, 127th overall, in 2024.

Career highlights

Shipley's biggest professional moment came in the 2024 NFC Championship Game, where he handled every snap of an 80-yard drive that included a 16-yard run, a 57-yard run and a 2-yard touchdown, helping send the Eagles to Super Bowl LIX. He also contributed as a kickoff returner, finishing his first two seasons with 950 return yards to go with limited rushing and receiving work.

2025 season recap

Shipley opened 2025 with three carries for 26 yards before suffering a fractured rib against Dallas in Week 1, an injury later reclassified as an oblique issue that kept him out for weeks. He returned against Tampa Bay but didn't touch the ball on offense, and Philadelphia's trade for running back Tank Bigsby further limited his role for the rest of the season.
