Path to the league

Onianwa was born August 16, 2003, and attended Cinco Ranch High School in Texas as a three-star recruit before committing to Rice. He started 34 games at offensive tackle across four seasons with the Owls, then transferred to Ohio State for the 2025 season. The Falcons drafted him with the No. 231 overall pick in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft and signed him to his rookie contract.

Career highlights

At Rice, Onianwa was a four-year starter at right tackle before shifting to left tackle for his final season there, making 25 starts at right tackle and nine at left tackle. His combination of length and experience made him a name NFL evaluators tracked even after he lost the Ohio State starting job battle.

2025 season recap

Onianwa's lone season at Ohio State did not go as planned: he was beaten out for the starting left tackle job and played a limited role behind the Buckeyes' first-string tackles.
