Hunter Wohler arrived in Indianapolis as a versatile box safety who could line up like a linebacker, the kind of hybrid defender general manager Chris Ballard flagged as a scheme fit from day one. Path to the league
Wohler starred at Muskego High School in Wisconsin, racking up 355 tackles and nine interceptions while winning three straight WIAA state championships and earning Wisconsin's Gatorade Football Player of the Year award. He stayed home to play for the Badgers, appearing in 43 games over four seasons with 25 starts, and the Colts took him 232nd overall in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

At Wisconsin, Wohler finished with 229 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions and 16 passes defensed, leading the team in tackles in both 2023 and 2024. He earned honorable mention All-Big Ten as a senior after starting all 11 games he played, and Indianapolis viewed his rare positional flexibility between safety and linebacker as a key reason to draft him.
2025 season recap
Wohler signed his four-year rookie contract in May and entered camp competing for a role as a box safety in the Colts' defense. He suffered a Lisfranc injury in August and was placed on injured reserve on August 18, ending his rookie season before it began in earnest.
