Jalyx Hunt's path to the NFL ran through Cornell and Houston Christian, an unlikely combination that made him the first player in his school's history to be drafted. After a modest rookie year and a Super Bowl LIX ring, Hunt broke out in 2025, becoming the first Eagle ever to lead the team in both sacks and interceptions in the same season.
Path to the league
Hunt started his college career as a safety at Cornell before transferring to Houston Christian and converting to defensive line, where he racked up 133 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks over his final two seasons. He was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a second-team FCS All-American in 2023. The Eagles made him the first player ever drafted out of Houston Christian, taking him in the third round, 94th overall, in 2024.
Career highlights
As a rookie in 2024, Hunt appeared in all 16 games and recorded 21 tackles, 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles, adding a half-sack in Philadelphia's Super Bowl LIX win over Kansas City. He took a major step forward in 2025, and his 42-yard pick-six against Minnesota in Week 7 was the first defensive touchdown of his career.
2025 season recap
Hunt started nine of 17 games in 2025 and put together a breakout year with 52 tackles, 6.5 sacks and three interceptions. He became the first Eagle in franchise history to lead the team outright in both sacks and interceptions in the same season.
