A fifth-round pick out of Cincinnati, Jerome Ford stepped in for an injured Nick Chubb in 2023 and delivered an 800-yard season as Cleveland's lead back.

Jerome Ford spent four seasons in Cleveland, developing from a depth piece into a proven starting-caliber running back who can both carry the ball and catch it out of the backfield. His versatility made him a reliable option whenever the Browns needed him to step up.

Path to the league

Ford transferred to Cincinnati after beginning his college career at Alabama, and he became a productive dual-threat back for the Bearcats. Cleveland selected him in the fifth round, 156th overall, of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Ford's biggest opportunity came in 2023 when Nick Chubb suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2. Ford took over as the starter and rushed for 813 yards and four touchdowns on 204 carries, adding 44 receptions for 319 yards and five touchdowns through the air. His four career rushes of 60-plus yards are tied with Chubb for the most by a Brown since 1999. He led the team with 565 rushing yards in 2024.

2025 season recap

Ford appeared in 13 games for Cleveland in 2025 but saw a diminished workload, totaling just 24 carries for 73 yards to go with 26 catches for 103 yards. His season ended early after he was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.
