The Minnesota Vikings placed running back Jordan Mason on injured reserve Wednesday after surgery to repair a fractured thumb he suffered in Sunday's 39-22 win over Green Bay. He will miss at least four games.
What happened?
Mason carried 15 times for 59 yards in the opener and reported soreness on Monday. Tests showed a fracture, and he had surgery before Wednesday's announcement. The earliest he can return is Week 6.
Who carries the ball now?
Aaron Jones Sr. remains the starter. Minnesota promoted DeeJay Dallas from the practice squad to the active roster and signed Jerome Ford to the practice squad. Rookie Demond Claiborne, inactive in Week 1, is the other back on the 53. Coach Kevin O'Connell pointed to Dallas' pass protection and special-teams physicality as the reasons he fits as the No. 2.
What else is the offense dealing with?
Quarterback Kyler Murray remains in the concussion protocol after leaving the opener on the 11th play, so Carson Wentz is preparing to start Sunday at Chicago unless Murray clears in time.
