Joey Blount is the classic tale of an undrafted defensive back who refused to go away. After a five-year college career at Virginia, he bounced from Seattle's roster to Arizona's practice squad before finally sticking as a core special-teamer and reliable depth safety for the Cardinals.

Path to the league

Blount played five seasons (2017-2021) at Virginia, appearing in 54 games with 32 starts and racking up 306 tackles, 9 interceptions, and 21 passes defensed for the Cavaliers. He earned third-team All-ACC honors in 2019. Undrafted in 2022, he signed with the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent.

Career highlights

Blount made Seattle's 53-man roster as a rookie in 2022, appearing in 11 games on special teams before a knee injury ended his season. After being released by the Seahawks, he signed with Arizona's practice squad in September 2023 and was promoted to the active roster that October, where he has remained since. He re-signed with the Cardinals on a two-year extension in March 2025 and was named a special teams captain.

2025 season recap

Blount's 2025 season was cut short by a neck injury suffered in Week 1, which landed him on injured reserve that September. Through his career he has totaled 20 tackles, 1 interception, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 pass deflection, including a game-ending interception against Philadelphia in a Week 17 win.
