A former Richmond walk-on who led all rookie defenders in sacks in 2023, Kobie Turner has developed into one of the Rams' most disruptive interior pass rushers.

Kobie Turner's path from walk-on at Richmond to third-round Rams pick to Defensive Rookie of the Year finalist is one of the more improbable rises on the roster. Nicknamed The Conductor, he has piled up double-digit sacks totals across his first three NFL seasons and anchors Los Angeles' interior defensive line.

Path to the league

Turner started as a walk-on at Richmond, where he developed into a dominant force, racking up 158 tackles and 15 sacks over 37 games and earning CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2021. He transferred to Wake Forest as a graduate transfer in 2022, earning third-team All-ACC recognition, before the Rams selected him in the third round (89th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Turner exploded as a rookie, leading all rookie defenders with 9.0 sacks in 2023, earning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for December, a PFWA All-Rookie Team nod, and a third-place finish in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting. He followed that with 8.0 sacks and 62 tackles in 2024, cementing himself as a full-time starter on the Rams' defensive line.

2025 season recap

Turner started all 17 games in 2025, recording 48 tackles, 7.0 sacks, 9 tackles for loss and his first career interception. His career totals through three seasons sit at 167 tackles and 24.0 sacks, making him one of the most productive defensive linemen from the 2023 draft class.
