Lan Larison arrived in New England as one of the most productive running backs in UC Davis history, signing as an undrafted free agent after a decorated Big Sky Conference career. A preseason foot injury derailed his first NFL season before it started, but the versatile back remains part of the Patriots' running back room.
Path to the league
Larison spent five seasons at UC Davis from 2020 to 2024, using a COVID-19 eligibility extension for his final year. He went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft and signed with the Patriots as a free agent on May 9, 2025.
Career highlights
Larison rushed for 3,634 yards and 41 touchdowns on 641 carries over his UC Davis career while adding 127 catches for 1,626 yards and 10 more scores. He was a two-time first-team FCS All-American in 2023 and 2024 and won Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year honors after a 1,101-yard, 13-touchdown rushing season. In his final year he set a school record with 2,387 all-purpose yards.
2025 season recap
Larison's rookie season ended before it began. He broke his foot in the Patriots' preseason opener against Washington, required surgery, and was placed on injured reserve on August 10, 2025, ruling him out for the entire year.
