Luke Schoonmaker came out of Michigan as a smooth-moving, well-rounded tight end prospect and has developed into a trusted second option in the Cowboys' passing game. He is not the featured target, but he has shown he can produce when called upon.

Path to the league

Schoonmaker played sparingly early in his Michigan career before breaking out in 2022, starting 11 games and catching 34 passes for 418 yards and three touchdowns. He finished his Wolverines career with 54 catches for 637 yards over 43 games, and the Cowboys selected him 58th overall in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

At 6-foot-5 and 251 pounds, Schoonmaker brings a size-speed combination and smooth route running to go with a blocking style that helped fuel Michigan's run game. In 2024, his second NFL season, he caught 27 of 36 targets for 241 yards and a touchdown over 17 games, including a strong three-game stretch filling in while Jake Ferguson was in concussion protocol.

2025 season recap

Schoonmaker continued in his familiar role as Dallas's No. 2 tight end behind Jake Ferguson in 2025, recording 14 catches for 132 yards without a touchdown. He briefly entered concussion protocol during training camp before being cleared, and remained a reliable depth piece in the Cowboys' passing offense.
