A dynamic slot receiver whose breakout Texans career was halted by a gruesome knee injury that cost him the entire 2025 season.

Tank Dell burst onto the scene as a rookie in 2023 with a knack for finding the end zone, quickly becoming a favorite target in Houston's passing game. A devastating knee injury in December 2024 wiped out his 2025 season, and the undersized, big-play receiver out of Houston is now working his way back for 2026.

Path to the league

Dell's college path ran through Independence Community College and Alabama A&M before he transferred to the University of Houston, where he caught 100 passes for 1,398 yards and 17 touchdowns in just 13 games as a senior in 2022 and earned first-team All-AAC honors in both 2021 and 2022. The Texans traded up to take him in the third round, 69th overall, of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Dell caught 47 passes for 709 yards and 7 touchdowns as a rookie in 2023 before a fractured fibula ended that season early. In 2024 he followed with 51 catches for 667 yards and 3 touchdowns before his season, and much of the next year, was derailed by a severe knee injury suffered against Kansas City in Week 16.

2025 season recap

Dell did not play at all in 2025 while recovering from a dislocated knee that required repair of the ACL, MCL and LCL along with meniscus damage. He has since said the recovery was the hardest stretch of his life and is targeting a return to game action in 2026.
