Xavier Hutchinson took a winding path from junior college to becoming one of the most productive receivers in Iowa State history, then landed with the Texans as a sixth-round pick. He has grown into a reliable depth option in Houston's passing game, posting his best NFL season yet in 2025.

Path to the league

Hutchinson began his college career at Blinn College before transferring to Iowa State, where he broke out immediately, leading the Big 12 with 64 receptions as a first-year Cyclone and earning Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year. As a senior in 2022 he set a career high with 107 receptions for 1,171 yards and earned first-team All-American honors. The Texans selected him in the sixth round, 205th overall, of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Hutchinson was a three-time first-team All-Big 12 selection at Iowa State (2020-2022) and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the second-highest graded receiver in his draft class. He has steadily increased his workload in the NFL, growing from a bit part as a rookie into a rotational contributor for the Texans.

2025 season recap

Hutchinson posted the best statistical season of his career in 2025, catching 35 passes for 428 yards and three touchdowns, both career highs, as he took on a larger role in Houston's receiver rotation.
