Theo Benedet grew up in Vancouver and built his game at the University of British Columbia, far outside the usual NFL pipeline. He went undrafted, signed with the Bears, and by his second season had taken over as Chicago's starting left tackle.
Path to the league
Benedet was a four-year starter at the University of British Columbia, becoming the first offensive player to win back-to-back J.P. Metras Trophies as the top lineman in Canadian university football and earning first-team All-Canadian honors twice. He went unselected in the NFL Draft but signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent.
Career highlights
At 6-foot-7 and 304 pounds, Benedet stood out physically even before he proved himself in the NFL, and his rare path from a Canadian university program to an NFL starting job is itself a notable achievement. He made his first career NFL start at right tackle in Chicago's Week 4 win over the Raiders before sliding over to left tackle.
2025 season recap
Benedet appeared in 16 games with eight starts in 2025, taking over as Chicago's starting left tackle from Week 6 through Week 11 and again in Week 18. He also made his postseason debut in the Bears' NFC Wild Card win over the Packers and played in the Divisional Round loss to the Rams.
